Cottage Comedy Podcast Spotlight: Moms Are Not Funny W/ Guest Steph Tolev
If one thing is certain during these uncertain times, it is that the golden era of content is happening right here and now. Leaning into this curve is one of our favorite new podcasts we have gotten into at Cottage Comedy Digital, the emerging new effort from Windsor comedians Jen Richardson and Christine Hall called Moms Are Not Funny.
On “Moms Are Not Funny” charismatic hosts Christine and Jen interview comedians about the moms that inspired them. Whether it’s their own mom, their wives, friends, themselves or Kitty from that 70s Show. They talk about their favorite mom comedians, sitcom moms and more. It’s a loose, fun, show with a positive vibe that also can run the gamut of emotions because of the connection the guests have to their moms, wives, kids, and the exploration of what those relationships mean to them. So far the podcast has had quality sit downs with guests such as Leslie Seiler (Second City), JJ Whitehead (The Jim Jefferies Show), Josh Gondelman (Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver), and Cottage Comedy founder Tyler Morrison.
Today Jen and Christine have another high caliber interview with one of the most accomplished sketch and stand-up comedians to ever come out of Canada, the Juno nominated Steph Tolev. Since her move to Los Angeles, Tolev has been on a high paced trajectory to become a household name but she has been racking up credits in Canada for years since starting out at Toronto’s Humber College Comedy Program. She has appeared at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal four times, three of which were taped for TV and air on the Comedy Network. Recently Steph made her American TV debut on on Comedy Central as part of Bill Burr’s new show “The Ringers”. In addition to this she was named one of Vulture’s “Comics You Should and Will Know” and one of Comedy Central’s “Up Next” comics to watch. A co-writer and co-star in the Comedy Central web series ” Steph & Deb” with comedian Deb Digiovanni, Steph can also seen in the Amazon show “Please Understand Me” produced by Sarah Silverman. Simply put if you have not seen Steph Tolev you need to, and this podcast is a great entry point to get to know one of the most tirelessly working, naturally funny people in the business.
In this episode of Mom’s Are Not Funny Jen and Christine talk with Steph about her recent Juno nomination (recorded prior to the event), how her parents landline rings all the time, her dog’s big fat vagina, her mom, and how her sister is “the favorite”. She’s okay with that, her sister is also her favorite.
If you’re looking to lock into a fun new podcast over the holidays this is an enjoyable one to binge and an episode with Steph Tolev is the perfect place to start.
