SICC ALUMNI DANNY MARTINELLO RELEASES DEBUT FULL-LENGTH COMEDY ALBUM – STARTING SOBER

[Toronto, ON December 4, 2023]  STARTING SOBER for award-winning comedian Danny Martinello brought with it a restored sense of confidence in life, including a whole new set of enhanced material. It seemed only logical for him to record and release his first full-length album, which he dedicated to those who had his back when he decided to put down the bottle. Martinello’s no-off-limits, hi-octane style of comedy makes him one of Canada’s freshest acts to watch today. Delivered with machine gun-like accuracy, his 14-track debut LP STARTING SOBER takes the audience on a hilarious journey from jaywalking, to sharing washrooms and defining sobriety.

“Danny is one of the most influential performers when it comes to young comedians on the scene today.  STARTING SOBER is an example of why he is so relatable to audiences worldwide – it captures his character perfectly, and the excitement that he brings to a live performance,” says Album Producer Tyler Morrison.

Winner of the prestigious Seattle International Comedy Competition (SICC) and  Interrobang’s “10 Canadians That Killed Comedy” list in 2021, the Edmonton-born actor/comedian has made TV appearances on CBC, CTV, and NBC, in addition to opening on stage for Bobby Lee, Jon Dore, Harland Williams, and Jay Pharoah at the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

“Martinello, whose style can best be described as Jim Carey’s wild stepson from Alberta, makes it look easy.”  ~Marty Young, Interrobang

STARTING SOBER IS available now on all streaming platforms.

NEW ALBUM RELEASE FROM CANADIAN COMEDIAN JEFF MCENERY: DENIM STRAITJACKET https://cottagecomedy.com/2023/11/15/new-album-release-from-canadian-comedian-jeff-mcenery-denim-straitjacket/ Wed, 15 Nov 2023 20:18:00 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=8816

NEW ALBUM RELEASE FROM CANADIAN COMEDIAN JEFF MCENERY: DENIM STRAITJACKET

[Toronto, ON  October 2023]  Born from a newly single and slightly unstable Jeff McEnery, DENIM STRAITJACKET was recorded live at Yuks Yuks’ Flagship Club in downtown Toronto, where the Ontario comedian did his first stand up set over twenty years ago. The album’s 11 Kentucky fired tracks boast a hilarious mix of blue-collar comedy and raw truth about mental health.  McEnery says “DENIM STRAITJACKET is all about the small-town jokes I’ve become known for, as well as stories about my recent Epilepsy and Social Anxiety Disorder diagnoses. I’ve never written more personal material.”

Letterkenny fans will immediately recognize Jeff McEnery as Alexander on the CTV hit show, however McEnery established himself first as one of the fastest rising stars in stand-up comedy when he won the prestigious Tim Sims Encouragement Award, shortly followed by YukYuks’ $25,000 Great Canadian Laugh Off and Best Stand-Up Newcomer at the Canadian Comedy Awards. Since then, Jeff has made multiple appearances at every major Canadian comedy festival including the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Comedy Festival and Halifax Comedy Festival.

Cottage Comedy Digital Producer, Tyler Morrison, compares McEnery’s DENIM STRAITJACKET to a “stand-up version of Letterkenny meets One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest. Its rare to find this type of honesty in palatable comedy that connects to every day working class people.”

DENIM STRAITJACKET IS AVAILABLE NOW ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS

Into the Weeds w/ Tommy Marshall’s Debut album! https://cottagecomedy.com/2020/12/09/into-the-weeds-w-tommy-marshalls-debut-album/ Wed, 09 Dec 2020 16:17:47 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=8091 With a global pandemic putting the brakes on a lot of live stand up comedy it also put a halt on many live recordings across the globe. Comedians who were planning to record albums or specials in 2020 essentially had their careers put on pause while material already honed on the road was put back on the shelf while the virus burns through. Some comedians however were able to get their recordings in before the lock. Fortunately for comedy fans,  Tommy Marshall is one of those comics.

Raised in the Ottawa valley, Tommy Marshall quickly learned the art of story telling and a self deprecating style from his hilarious grandmother. Fittingly, and for your listening pleasure, he has recorded his debut album “Into the Weeds” in his hometown at Ottawa Yuk Yuks Comedy Club. Into the Weeds (available today on all platforms through Cottage Comedy Digital) is one of those albums that will make you long for the days of listening to one of your favorite comics kill in front of a crowd of strangers huddled into a dark basement. The good thing is that this album perfectly fills that void, capturing the element and vibe of the Ottawa Yuk Yuks club.

The album is a great introduction to a young comedian who is poised to break out of the pack of his comedy peers with big things on the horizon both as a stand up and comedic actor. Recognizable from having appeared Canada’s hit show Letterkenny, fans of that show will enjoy this album and the way it highlights his upbringing in rural surroundings as well as some of his relatable encounters growing up in the Ottawa Valley. Tommy takes personal anecdotes and blends them with unique observational humor to expose absurdity in the topics he tackles. One thing that really stands out is how he always puts “funny” first even when he’s taking hard cuts at the hypocrisy of the Canadian government or gay conversion camps. Bottom line, Tommy Marshall’s “Into the Weeds” will make you laugh above all else and that right now is what we need this holiday season.

Cottage Comedy Podcast Spotlight: Moms Are Not Funny W/ Guest Steph Tolev https://cottagecomedy.com/2020/12/02/cottage-comedy-podcast-spotlight-moms-are-not-funny-w-guest-steph-tolev/ Wed, 02 Dec 2020 09:00:25 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=8065 If one thing is certain during these uncertain times, it is that the golden era of content is happening right here and now. Leaning into this curve is one of our favorite new podcasts we have gotten into at Cottage Comedy Digital, the emerging new effort from Windsor comedians Jen Richardson and Christine Hall called Moms Are Not Funny.

On “Moms Are Not Funny” charismatic hosts Christine and Jen interview comedians about the moms that inspired them. Whether it’s their own mom, their wives, friends, themselves or Kitty from that 70s Show. They talk about their favorite mom comedians, sitcom moms and more. It’s a loose, fun, show with a positive vibe that also can run the gamut of emotions because of the connection the guests have to their momswives, kids, and the exploration of what those relationships mean to them.  So far the podcast has had quality sit downs with guests such as Leslie Seiler (Second City), JJ Whitehead (The Jim Jefferies Show), Josh Gondelman (Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver), and Cottage Comedy founder Tyler Morrison.

Today Jen and Christine have another high caliber interview with one of the most accomplished sketch and stand-up comedians to ever come out of Canada, the Juno nominated Steph Tolev. Since her move to Los Angeles, Tolev has been on a high paced trajectory to become a household name but she has been racking up credits in Canada for years since starting out at Toronto’s Humber College Comedy Program. She has appeared at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal four times, three of which were taped for TV and air on the Comedy Network. Recently Steph made her American TV debut on on Comedy Central as part of Bill Burr’s new show “The Ringers”.  In addition to this she was named one of Vulture’s “Comics You Should and Will Know” and one of Comedy Central’s “Up Next” comics to watch.   A co-writer and co-star in the Comedy Central web series ” Steph & Deb” with comedian Deb Digiovanni, Steph can also seen in the Amazon show “Please Understand Me” produced by Sarah Silverman. Simply put if you have not seen Steph Tolev you need to, and this podcast is a great entry point to get to know one of the most tirelessly working, naturally funny people in the business.

In this episode of Mom’s Are Not Funny Jen and Christine talk with Steph about her recent Juno nomination (recorded prior to the event), how her parents landline rings all the time, her dog’s big fat vagina, her mom, and how her sister is “the favorite”. She’s okay with that, her sister is also her favorite.

If you’re looking to lock into a fun new podcast over the holidays this is an enjoyable one to binge and an episode with Steph Tolev is the perfect place to start.

Cottage Comedy Teams w/ Jarrett Campbell & Dave Merheje for New Digital Series #PYMK https://cottagecomedy.com/2020/11/04/cottage-comedy-teams-w-playground-jarrett-campbell-dave-merheje-for-new-digital-series-pymk/ Wed, 04 Nov 2020 16:18:02 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=7893

Cottage Comedy Digital is excited to announce we have teamed with Canadian Comedy heavyweights Dave Merheje and Jarrett Campbell to launch the new web series People You May Know (#PYMK) with the first episode of the digital series launching next Tuesday November 10 on cottagecomedy.com and other digital platforms on social media. “The project was born from a segment Jarrett created on a podcast we  co-hosted together a few years ago and was then further developed with Ryan Bannon. Ryan is the founding partner and director of Playground who has helped this project take shape with his crisp production, directing, and design work behind the camera,” says Tyler Morrison, Creative Director of Cottage Comedy Digital.

People You May know showcases the comedians’ rapid fire, off-the-cuff humor and hilarious banter as they dive into the online world of oversharing on social media. Taking real statuses from real people (protected by anonymity), the two comics roast each post and attempt to figure out the psyche behind what drives some of these every day people to publicly share their worst and most misguided inner thoughts.

“Having two comedians that have the rapport Dave and Jarrett have together is always the starting point for a winning formula on a show like this. Creating content through the pandemic has had it’s learning curve but our team has been unified by the importance of putting out quality content,” Morrison said.

About the Hosts:

DAVE MERHEJE: is a Canadian stand-up comedian whose comedy album Good Friend Bad
Grammar won the Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2019. Born in Windsor, Ontario to a Lebanese family, Merheje began performing comedy in the Windsor-Detroit area. He also has a recurring role as Dave Bechara in the television sitcom Mr. D, and was featured in an episode of the Netflix stand-up comedy series Comedians of the World. In 2019, he portrayed the role of Ahmed on the Hulu comedy series Ramy.

JARRETT CAMPBELL is one of the fastest rising talents in Canadian Comedy. His work has been featured on MTV, Comedy Network and CBC. SELF ISOLATE WITH THE IRISH: FIONA O’BRIEN IS “MAGICALLY MALICIOUS” https://cottagecomedy.com/2020/03/31/self-isolate-with-the-irish-fiona-obrien-is-magically-malicious/ Tue, 31 Mar 2020 20:10:37 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=7846 IRISH BORN CANADIAN COMEDIAN FIONA O’BRIEN’S ALBUM “MAGICALLY MALICIOUS” DEBUTS AT #1 ON APPLE MUSIC iTUNES COMEDY CHARTS

Recorded at the John Candy Theatre in Toronto, MAGICALLY MALICIOUS is the debut stand-up comedy album from Irish born comedian Fiona O’Brien. Available now on Apple Music, it’s the perfect soundtrack to your self isolation and lost St. Patrick’s Day party plans! Hitting #1 on the Apple Music iTunes Comedy Charts, it remained there for nearly 40 straight hours and a was top 30 album in Canada.

O’Brien combines sharply crafted, side-splitting jokes with hilarious anecdotes about her assimilation to Canada and newly single status as a mother of three. Described by her as “A modern Irish immigrant’s stories of survival,”  the album  highlights the relatable, gregarious charm of a comedic storyteller with a knack for bringing audiences into her world, laughing all the way.

After emigrating from Ireland to Canada in 2012, Fiona began on a quest to stamp out the racism that the Irish have faced – One Lucky Charm at a time. She has quickly established herself by winning over  sexually frustrated, disillusioned and otherwise bored audiences with her no restraint, provocative humour.

“When we arrived in Toronto we had no family or friends, no support system, and my husband was at work for very long hours. I was alone and needed to keep myself busy, so I would write more while the kids were in bed. Sadly our marriage ended in 2014. It was the kick up the arse I needed to start my own journey. I went online and looked up comedy courses in Toronto. In 2014 I signed up to become a student at Second City Toronto. I took all my stories and went in every Saturday for five hours to a stand-up comedy and writing class. It was a whole new lease of life for me, and I haven’t looked back since,” says O’Brien in a recent Irish Times interview.

OBrien performs at The Halifax Comedy Festival this April airing on CBC, is a two time tournament champion at Flat Tire Comedy Fest and performs nationally with Yuk Yuks on tour.  She was also a finalist in the “Toronto Comedy Brawl” and “The Rising Stars” competition at Brantford Comedy Festival and a t’wo time semi finalist in Absolute Comedy’s “Prove You’re a Comic.”

COMEDY FOR YOUR QUARANTINE: MIKE WILMOT’S ALBUM “UNCLE” https://cottagecomedy.com/2020/03/26/comedy-for-your-quarantine-mike-wilmots-album-uncle/ Thu, 26 Mar 2020 15:13:47 +0000 https://cottagecomedy.com/?p=7836

UK Based Canadian comedian Mike Wilmot has been a staple of international comedy stages for years with his world renowned stand-up act, and for the first time ever he is releasing his own full length comedy album. Produced by Cottage Comedy Digital, Mike Wilmot’s debut album release “Uncle” is now available for purchase and streaming on all major platforms. It came as no surprise that the album debuted at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts upon release. “Uncle” Mike delivers a comedy clinic with his signature raspy voice and deliriously funny material that feels like listening to an inappropriate uncle telling dirty jokes by the campfire. A throwback to the albums you had to listen to quietly so your parent’s wouldn’t hear, “Uncle” is non-stop laughs about everything from sex, monopoly, marriage and the perils of buying contraband. At 53 minutes in length, this album builds a momentum that can only be acquired from years of touring and captures perfectly a fine display of what has made him a favorite on stages like Just For Laugh’s Nasty Show and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“Uncle Mike” tells it like it is. A veteran stand-up possessed of an extraordinarily empathetic relationship with his crowd, Mike loves enrapturing and abusing his audience with dirty gags your mum would accept from no-one else.”  COMEDIANSCOMEDIAN

https://music.apple.com/ca/album/uncle/1482507312

ABOUT MIKE WILMOT
Mike was born with his head between a woman’s legs, took that fact, added beer and created one of the funniest stand-up acts on both sides of the Atlantic. If you live on the eastern side of the Pond and are a fan of Rich Hall’s you probably saw Mike appear with him on the BBC in Rich Hall’s Cattle Drive or Rich Hall’s Fishing Show. Or you might have seen him as himself on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo, in Never Mind the Buzzcocks or 28 Acts in 28 Minutes. Many Canadians will know Wilmot best from his appearance on CTV’s Corner Gas as Brent’s big city cousin, Carl. Wilmot has also popped up on such cult comedy favorites as The Jon Dore Television Program, and the criminally underrated Dave Foley/David Steinberg movie, The Wrong Guy.  Mike has appeared several times at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, as well comedy festivals in Ireland, Scandinavia, Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Bangkok and South Africa.

The above just scratches the surface of this funny man’s comedic depth. You might ask, “What do you mean by that?” And I would answer: He’s got awards. He’s got awards up the wazoo: The Barry for Outstanding Stand-up Comic Performance at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival; The Time Out Award for Outstanding Stand-up Comic in London, England; the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Film Performance in the cult classic It’s All Gone Pete Tong, and he twice received the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-up.

”The bear-like, gravel voiced Mike Wilmot fires keen reports from the front line of the sex wars. He sweats; he shambles; he swears. You’ll cough, choke and chortle.” THE GLASGOW HERALD

DEBUT ALBUM “STRAIGHT WHITE FAIL” BY TORONTO’S JARRETT CAMPBELL NOMINATED FOR 2020 JUNO AWARDS COMEDY ALBUM OF THE YEAR

[January 28, 2020 Toronto, ON]
CBC’s Juno Nomination Press Conference just announced Jarrett Campbell as one of five Canadian comedians nominated for the 2020 Comedy Album of the Year. Originally from Maxwell, Ontario, Campbell is “honoured to be nominated alongside some other amazing talents.” A mentor, and last year’s winner in the same category, Dave Merheje says “Jarrett Campbell is one of the funniest people coming out of Canada.”

A mix of sharp, subversive material with a blue collar vibe, Cottage Comedy Producer Tyler Morrison describes Straight White Fail as “a blisteringly funny comedy album in celebration of self deprecation and mockery of small town debauchery.”  The 15 track album provides its audience with unfiltered, working class humor through Campbell’s unique storytelling abilities and hilarious social commentary.  Straight White Fail debuted on the iTunes Comedy charts at #1 and The Interrobang recently named the album “11 of the Best Canadian Comedy Albums of 2019.”

Jarrett Campbell stormed onto the Toronto comedy circuit almost 9 years ago and soon became one of the fastest rising talents in Canadian comedy. Earning early career appearances on MTV and NXNE quickly led to bigger opportunities. Career highlights include opening for Chris D’Elia & Theo Von, performing at Just For Laughs Montreal on the Jim Jefferies Gala and on Jeff Ross’ Roast Battle. Campbell tours with Yuk Yuks Comedy from New York to Vancouver, is a fan favorite at Toronto’s JFL 42 and the annual Cottage Country Comedy Festival in Muskoka. His work airs regularly on Comedy Network, CraveTV and SiriusXM Canada.
